The origins of the Vizsla breed can be dated back to the early 1800s during the Austro-Hungarian empire. They were bred as both pointers and retrievers by local Magyar tribesmen playing a crucial role in helping tribes track, take down, and retrieve game. Archeologists have found stone etchings that depict the Magyar hunter with his falcon and Vizsla companion.
