About Dylan and Dog Gone

Hey, I’m Dylan.

I’m a Brooklyn-based illustrator and printmaker. I created Dog Gone Studios in 2020 to give personal projects a life outside the sketchbook. It became a place for art prints, illustrated goods, and ideas that don’t always make it into my client work.

About Dog Gone Studios

The name “Dog Gone” worked for a bunch of reasons. It ties into my initials, reflects the dog themed work, and sounds like a curse word from an old cartoon, which fits the playfulness and nostalgia in my illustrations.

Printmaking is the core of Dog Gone. All the artwork is handmade, no generated slop. Everything starts as a sketch on paper, then gets carved as a woodcut or drawn digitally before becoming a relief print or limited edition screen print, most hand pulled by me in the studio. Apparel, stickers, and books round out the shop, often spun off from larger series or popular designs.

I don’t really think of this as a brand. It’s a studio practice with a shop built around it. I’m the sole creator and handle everything from design to packing, with help from a few trusted print partners. While dogs are a big part of the shop’s identity, they’re not the whole story. I also draw inspiration from my love of skate culture, classic country music, and children’s book illustration.

Whether you found me at an art fair, through a gig poster, or just ended up googling dog art, I appreciate you stopping by.

More About Me

I have been drawing and skateboarding for as long as I can remember. As a kid I loved the art in childrens’ books and animated movies and spent hours trying to copy them. The local skateshop felt like an art museum to me. The board wall, stickers and t-shirts were packed with bold graphics and characters that felt alive. Later in college I got deep into 70s country music and started paying attention to the storytelling in those songs.

Those early interests became the recurring themes in my work- dynamic characters, capturing motion, and compositions that tell a story. I use a mix of relief printmaking, screen printing, and digital drawing, with the look and feel inspired by traditional techniques and vintage graphics.

I studied Communication Design at Pratt and, after graduating, I spent several years as a studio assistant to Dennis McNett. That’s where I got a deep dive into printmaking and what it takes to build a career as an artist beyond the traditional gallery route. I started freelancing full time in 2016. In 2020, I launched Dog Gone Studios as a way to carve out more time for personal projects without relying entirely on client work to pay the bills.

These days, I split my time between studio work and commercial illustration, creating graphics for concert posters, apparel, beer cans, skateboards, and more. My work has been shown at print fairs, galleries, and museums in New York City, Los Angeles, Rottweil, Brussels, and Tokyo. Whether I’m working on a client project or making something for the shop, I take pride in bringing craft, detail, and storytelling  to everything I make.
