One of my favorite parts of starting any project is digging into the research. While checking out attractions in Bozeman, I came across the Museum of the Rockies and learned it’s home to one of the most complete Tyrannosaurus rex skeletons ever found, which I thought would make for a rad poster.
The cross section of earth below the dog is packed with buried references to Sturgill, from the nautical elements nodding to A Sailor’s Guide to Earth, to the skeleton with a spear, and even a push mower referencing the Cutting Grass collection. There’s a little something from every corner of his catalog layered in the dirt.
