For the art, I leaned into the Cap’s mascot, squirrels. They were part of Thomas Lamb’s original 1926 architectural design and show up throughout the venue in the wallpaper and carved details. In the illustration, the decorative arch in the tree is directly inspired by the gilded carvings inside the theater.
To tie it back to Phil and the Dead, the two central squirrels mirror the musical poses of the turtles on the Terrapin Station album cover, and the trunk of the big oak tree forms the Dead’s Stealie logo.
