“Griffons d’ecurie,” or “wire-coated stable dogs” had been around for centuries in Europe and can be traced as far back to the famous 1434 Van Eyck painting, “Arnolfini Couple”. The Brussels Griffon gets its name in the 1870’s when the Queen of Belgium took a liking to the breed and turned it from the rat chasing stable dog to a royal lap dog.
8.5” x 11” open edition screen-print, black ink on speckle tone off white paper, hand printed and signed by the artist.
