Pit Bull Terrier Print
The American Pit Bull Terrier’s ancestors can be traced back to the United Kingdom where Black and Tan Terriers and Old English Bulldogs were bred together, becoming known as the Bull and Terrier. Their original purpose was blood sports and bull baiting, which was outlawed in Britain in 1835. Shortly after they were brought to America where the dogs took on an all-purpose role, herding and guarding livestock, acting as a watchdog, and helping on the hunts as hog catchers. Their loyal and friendly demeanor with humans earned them a place not only as a working dog but as a loving companion.
