Rottweilers are one of the oldest herding breeds dating back to the Roman Empire. Due to the lack of refrigeration, armies would bring livestock with them as they traveled and used the dogs to herd and guard the cattle. Around 74 A.D. they traveled across the Alps and into what is now southern Germany. Once settled, the dogs worked for butchers taking meat and cattle to markets in Rottweil, Germany where the breed became known as Rottweiler Metzgerhunds, or "Butchers' Dogs".

8.5” x 11” open edition screen-print, black ink on speckle tone off white paper, hand printed and signed by the artist.
