German Shorthaired Pointers were developed in Germany in the mid-19th century to be extremely athletic and intelligent hunters that could retrieve game both on land and the water. The “pointer” in their name refers to the iconic arrow shape the dog takes, usually lifting its front leg and aiming its muzzle in the direction of the game. They were selectively bred from dogs who had this pointing instinct and puppies may start pointing as early as 2 months with no hunting experience.

8.5” x 11” open edition screen-print, black ink on speckle tone off white paper, hand printed and signed by the artist.
